It is a unique piece of navigational aid in that it allows the navigation with electronic aids, and also allows the continued navigation when the electronics fail (by using the maps and manual plotting instead). The plotter consists of a plotting surface impregnated with fine wires and a moveable mouse containing a sensing ring. The mouses location on the surface can be read by the system at all times.
