HP Photosmart D110a – Wireless Photo Printer with Touchsmart Web Browsing
With an ePrint function that allows users to print web content directly from the printer itself without ever having to connect to a PC, and a price tag under a hundred dollars, the HP Photosmart D110a is one of the best values on the market. Thanks to a large Touchsmart frame that allows for easy, wireless web browsing directly from the unit, the D110a is one of the first in a new category of, "stand alone printers."
Furthering the HP Photosmart D110a's standing as an independent device is the incorporation of copy functions into the unit. A flip up top allows for copies of photos and documents, along with three dimensional objects such as books and magazines, to be made easily. The device's photo printing quality allows for glossy paper prints of lab quality imagery, and a fast print speed keeps black and white documents outputting at a rapid pace.
The Touchsmart color display makes browsing menus easier than ever, and lets users search through photos uploaded directly from a digital camera for printing. Templates are included in the HP Photosmart D110a's firmware for printing calendars and games using HP Quick Forms. If PC integration is desired after all, HP includes easy to use software such as Photo Creations and drag and drop printing software, while wireless connectivity makes connecting an entire household as easy as can be.
With a great black and white print speed of 29 pages per minute, and a color print speed not too far behind at 23 pages per minute, the HP Photosmart D110a competes with the best for performance. Black and white image resolution tops out at only 600 dots per inch, but color resolution can be selected all the way up to the optimized photo quality of 4800 x 1200 dots per inch. When printing at this resolution, users must be printing to photo paper and they must be connected to a PC.
The display screen is 2.36 inches in size and uses LCD technology, and a duplexor is not included in the hardware, but manual duplexing is possible via the included software. Borderless printing is possible when using photo paper, and direct printing is available via a variety of memory card slots that support Memory Stick Duo and Secure Digital / Multimedia cards.
When connected to a PC, the HP Photosmart D110a can also act as a formidable scanner with an optical scan resolution of 1200 dots per inch and an enhanced resolution of up to 19,200 dots per inch with a 48 inch bit depth. A single 80 sheet paper tray is all the D110a offers for paper storage, severely limiting its high volume print possibilities, and its maximum monthly duty cycle is even more disappointing.
With so many possibilities at such an amazing price, one would expect there to be a catch with the HP Photosmart D110a, and there is. Its maximum duty cycle is only 1000 pages per month, making it ideal for those with very light print needs.
