Laminators And Cutters: Essential Accessories For The Wide-Format Printer
When you buy a wide-format printer, either for your studio or print shop or office or even for your home usage, it almost follows later on that you will need a laminator and a printer cutter. These two items are essential accessories to a wide-format printer.
Why are these two items so important? Basically, the laminator and the printer cutter help ensure the quality of the printed output. This is why you will probably need these items if you are going to use your wide-format printer, especially for business purposes.
Laminators Protect Your Prints
What do laminators do to make them an important accessory to your wide-format printer? They actually have two basic functions – to protect your printouts and to make them look good.
No matter how good your printouts look like, they can be washed out by rain or dampness when you place them outdoors or by accidental spills when they are placed indoors. If your printouts are made with water-based inks, then you are totally done for. Ultraviolet rays can also wreak havoc on your printouts because light can cause certain printer inks to fade away.
A laminator prevents these from happening by putting a thin layer of protective plastic coating over your printout. In this way, your printout will remain impervious to the elements or to accidental spills. In addition, a laminator can also enhance the quality of your printouts. They create a dramatic contrast to the colors and shading of your printed images.
Printer Cutters to Trim Your Prints
The function of printer cutters is as their name suggests – they trim the edges of your prints. This is especially important when you are doing professional printing jobs because your client will want the printouts to look neat and pretty, without any uneven edges or jagged cuts as you would typically end up with when you cut them with scissors instead.
Some wide-format printers are already equipped with printer cutters but some are not. But even if the printer already has a built-in cutter, it may still result in sloppy-looking edges. In such cases, you would need a separate cutter to get the job done.
Shopping for Laminators and Cutters
High-end laminators and printer cutters can be costly accessories to your wide-format printer. However, even though they are expensive, you should still resist the temptation to buy what may seem to be an awesome deal that will help you cut costs on the purchase. You may end up with a defective product that does not work according to the way you want it to work.
When you buy accessories for your wide-format printer, always make sure that you get them from a truly reliable source and not from just any source that will offer you these accessories cheaply but will only make a run for your money. After all, no matter how costly a laminator or a printer cutter is, you can still get a good price if you do your research well first.
