If you try to print with an empty cartridge then it will burn out the print head which results in poor quality printing and lines across the printed page and could even damage your printer.
Shopping over the internet often means you get the printer ink for a lower price as the merchant has fewer overheads to pay and so they can advertise their products are lower prices than high street stores are able to.
