Which Is Better: Online Calendars or Home Made
As it gets cheaper to customize things like greeting cards, family photos and other stationeries, more and more people are taking advantage. Included in the long list of similar items is the calendar. You can find countless websites and companies that offer free template software to make custom calendars. Two such sites are www.eprintable.com and www.printablecalendar.ca. In order to understand the benefits and drawbacks of creating a calendar at home, we must also consider alternative options.
The first alternative are calendars, which come in an array of styles, sizes and subject matter. The calendar is already complete meaning you do not have to worry about choosing the right paper or how much printer ink will be used to print off a full calendar. Another alternative would be to purchase a custom calendar from a company that specializes in making personalized stationeries. They print them and mail directly to you. However, lookout for minimum order requirements. For a single calendar, this probably would not be the most economical option. If you are just interested in single calendars, sites like www.kodak.com allow you to create personalized calendars, but without any minimum order amounts.
Monthly calendars can be pricey, running all the way up to $20.00 plus. A typical daily calendar runs about $13.00 on average with large desk-top monthly calendars reaching $25.00. Of all the calendar options, the most economical would be printing your custom calendar from your home printer. According to a report in 2004 by Verhaeghe, the average cost to print out a double sided page ranges from $0.06 to $0.60 per page and a typcial calendar has 15 pages. With that said, if you add in the cost of printer ink and high gloss paper, you stand to save about $9.00 over a custom calendar purchased in a retail store. On a minor note, be careful of how much ink you use because printer ink cartridges can be very expensive. Also, some printer ink cartridges burn through ink a lot faster than others so be careful of the fact.
So in review, there are three main options to choose from when it comes to purchasing a custom calendar:
1. Purchase a generic calendar from a retail location
2. Buy from a specialist such as a marketing company or photo processing company
3. Make your own personalized calendar and print it from home
There are advantages and disadvantages to each option. The first option is fast, easy, convenient and good quality, but it is pricey. The second option can be slightly timely and is middle of the road as far as expense, but the quality will most likely be better than one created at home. Whereas, the calendar made at home is the least expensive and most customizable, but may slightly lack in quality. It also has other incremental costs to consider such as the cost of printer ink cartridges and high quality paper.
