How To Make A Neighborhood Awareness Campaign Easier With A Wide-Format Printer
Many types of wide-format printers can work on different types of printing mediums, ranging from paper to plastic to fabric. There are even some wide-format printers that can print on metal and wood. Although paper is still the most popular medium for printers, there are printing projects in some fields where paper is quickly being replaced as the favored medium.
Textile printing in particular is edging into territory once occupied by printing on paper. This still depends on the purpose of the printing project, of course, but printing on fabric has definite advantages over printing on paper or on other mediums. Here are four of the advantages that textile printing possesses over printing on paper.
1. Printing on fabric can make images look more interesting. In printing, print quality is often measured in terms of color brightness and accuracy as well as sharpness in detail, among other criteria. When you print on fabric, you can actually come up with more interesting images because the weave of the fabric adds texture to the image. This can be especially valuable if you are printing photographs or giclee art.
2. Fabric is more durable than paper. One selling point of textile printing is the durability of fabric. Unlike paper, fabric can withstand the elements and does not get worn down by constant folding. Creases on fabric can be easily smoothed away as well. Also, printer ink can bind more strongly with fabric, but this still depends on the kind of printer ink used.
3. Printing on fabric is more eco-friendly. Even though most fabrics are just like paper in that they are manufactured from plant-based materials, textile printing is more environmentally sustainable than printing on paper. For instance, it takes only a few months to grow cotton and then harvest it to weave into fabric. On the other hand, it takes years to grow a forest and then harvest it to manufacture paper.
4. Fabric is more reusable than paper. We are always advised to print on both sides of the paper before we chuck it in the recycling bin. However, when you are making a graphical presentation, you cannot always print on both sides of the paper. Fabric, on the other hand, can lend itself to reusing, depending on the kind of printer ink that was used on the original printing job. You can have the fabric re-dyed and run it on the wide-format printer again.
Paper is still the most popular medium for most printing jobs, even with a wide-format printer. Nonetheless, there are a lot of printing jobs that would work a lot better when fabric is used as the medium. In these kinds of printing jobs, textile printing is more advantageous than printing on paper.
