Canon i-SENSYS LBP3100 Toner Review
Individuals looking for a mono printer may wish to consider the Canon I-SENSYS LBP3100 which is one of their latest offerings in this area and can be acquired for in the region of £90. With its ice-white colouring and petite size this machine not only looks good but will fit in a small space.
The top of the printer opens front-wise to make the tray for the printed paper. The input tray is located at the front of the Canon I-SENSYS LBP3100. It folds down and has an integral dust cover which stops the up to 150 sheets of paper getting dusty. Being attached it means the dust cover does not have to be stored separately when not in use. There is also a single sheet multipurpose feed just above the cover.
The Canon I-SENSYS LBP3100 only has a resume button on the front together with the on/off switch and a green LED to indicate power and data. Connection to a computer is via a sole USB socket at the rear.
Setting up the LBP3100 is straightforward as virtually all you have to do as far as software is concerned is install the supplied driver. The Canon I-SENSYS LBP3100 printer toner cartridge slots easily into the printer once you have opened the top cover. You get a 700 page starter toner cartridge with the machine but the replacement 1870B002AA will do as much as 1,500 pages and can be got as genuine Canon or non-Canon varieties.
Canon claims the LBP3100 is capable of printing at 16 pages per minute (ppm) which proved to be not far off the mark as in tests a 20 page text print was completed in 15.2ppm while a 15 x 10cm photo was printed in 15 seconds. Considering the cost of this machine these results are more than acceptable.
The Canon I-SENSYS LBP3100 was, for the most part, capable of making high quality prints. Text was dense and showed no signs of spatter while grayscale was fair with some signs of banding and levelling out of different tones.
The quality of the photo print was OK with just about acceptable levels of detail. Admittedly this is a mono printer and as such it seems unlikely that anyone would use it for series photo printing.
With a noise level of up to 63dBA, Canon claims 50dBA, you might not want to place the Canon I-SENSYS LBP3100 close to where you are sitting.
The Canon I-SENSYS LBP3100 is available for roughly £90 and at the price it produces excellent text prints and reasonable graphics and photo prints.
