Did you know that Printers could be shared in Windows?
Merely creating a wireless network is not enough. You then need to identify the resources you would like to share with others. Printers are commonly used computer peripherals that can be shared among different users on a wireless network. And, guess what? It is really easy to do this. The piece of information I am going to share with you will give you a hint as to how printer that is already attached to a user's computer can be shared across other computers.
While going about sharing printers it doesn't really matter for how many users it is going to be shared or how many printers you will need to share. Also before you start sharing processes, you need to ensure that the printer is set accordingly. For this, you need to click on Control Panel in your computer and choose the folder Printers and Faxes. Upon right clicking the Printers icon you will see Properties and this has to be chosen. You will then see a menu box on top of which is labeled sharing. You need to select this option. Then, click Share the Printer button. Upon completing this step you will be prompted to give a new name for the printer you are going to share across this network.
Now, depending upon the operating system you wish to be operating upon the option has to be chosen accordingly on the button Additional Drivers. The below given information is provided to you assuming that you are using Windows XP. If you are provided with device driver disc with your printer then your task of installing different operating systems becomes a lot easier. Also, you can provide a unique name to each of these operating systems so they will not confuse you later.
For every computer you are using remotely in the network, your shared printer installation has to begin with opening Control Panel for Printers and Faxes. Here, you will need to click on the concerned icon to add the printer. Now, the wizard will initiate the installation process. You will now have an option to allow wizard to browse your network for locating the printer. You can even enter the name of your shared printer at this stage. If the printer icon doesn't pop up after the wizard manages to locate the host computer of your printer, you need to click on ‘+' icon. This should hopefully enable you to see the printer.
Once the installation process is complete, you will be given a choice to print test pages. This is the perfect time for you to check if there is any problem in the settings or not. You cannot afford do these checking if you have to print a bank statement or an official report while hurrying up for an urgent meeting! If this is the only printer that is shared across the network you can be sure that printing activities can be carried out quickly and with less confusion. This is because the users will have to set this printer as a default one in the options of their control panel and each time they want to print something, this machine will be chosen for the purpose.
