Canon i-SENSYS MF8050Cn Toner Review
The idea of including a flatbed scanner and also an Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) to a colour laser printer to produce a business multifunction printer is continuing to get more common and Canon's i-SENSYS MF8050Cn was created for small business or smaller workgroups in much larger organizations.
This is rather a neat multifunction, not very much broader than the A4 flatbed scanner, that rests on top of it. It is actually pretty deep, however, because the in-line, colour laser engine runs the paper via front to back, exiting on to the top of the printer part, in which there exists a cut-out alongside the control panel, so you can access documents easily.
The control panel itself, even though busy, is actually well presented, along with a fax dial-up pad on the right, along with the copy controls. In the middle is the five-line, backlit Liquid crystal display, together with the three main mode keys with regard to Copy, Fax and Scan at the rear plus a navigation ring right in front. To the left there are fax and copy-related options and also the first five of the quick-dial numbers. Raise this specific part of the panel upward to uncover 19 more quick-dials, a nice method of applying dual-function keys.
There's a simple front panel USB socket just beneath the control panel which will take a USB drive, but it is tied to keeping scanned images as PDF files and cannot handle walk-up printing.
This is a completely networked, multifunction device, created for printing and copying in an office environment, yet it has a single 150-sheet paper tray with no means of including an additional one, although there exists a single-sheet multipurpose slot.
Installation is actually quite straightforward, with a common pack of Canon multifunction software plus a copy of Presto! Page Manager intended for document management. Drivers are provided for Windows and OS X, however there is nothing specific supplied for Linux.
Our five-page black text print returned 5.77ppm and although we saw 9.52ppm for the 20-page test, it really is nevertheless some way less than the target figure.
The colour test produced a speed of 4.84ppm. Subjectively, the device seems slow-moving and any time copying a five-page text document from the ADF, it was pretty noticeable that the scanning finished before page one was out of the unit.
The quality of the print is as fine as we've come to anticipate from Canon, although regular black print is a bit lighter as compared with from some of its competitors. It is a good colour laser multifunction product from Canon, although the lack of a walk-up print ability and the paltry capacity of the primary feed tray are unusual design aberrations from a business that usually gets these matters correct. Even the inkjet all-in-ones possess two, 150-sheet paper trays as normal.
