Usb Extender: Usb Extension Through Cat5, Fiber Optic Cables & Wireless Technology
A USB Extender allows placement of USB peripheral devices up to a distance of 150 feet away from the source computer. USB has a distance limitation of 5 meters. Since these extension devices are connected to the source and display via Cat5 cables, the distance barrier is overcome. Peripherals can now be placed at a distance of 330 feet. It allows placement of up to 4 USB devices at remote locations. Comprising of a transmitter and receiver which connect to the host and peripherals, this extension device is simple to set up and uses plug and play functionality for operation.
Requiring no additional software or drivers, usb extender operates without external power adapters. Extension of peripherals using these devices can range from 100 meters up to 10 km, depending upon the channel which is used for connection. Compatible with any USB device, they are compliant with the USB 1.0 and 1.1 specifications. Certified by FCC and CE Class A, this extension device works has LEDs which indicate the link performance status. A 5V DC adapter at the remote unit provides standard 500mA of power. Supporting a wide range of USB devices such as printers, scanners, web cams, and hard drives, this extender transmits signals in real time making it appear as though the peripherals are locally connected.
The Wireless USB Extender is the latest entrant in the category of these extenders. It makes use of wireless 802.11g radio to link the sender and the receiver units. Using this device, data of up to 54 mbps can be transmitted without any downtime. Operating on Icron’s patented Extreme USB technology, this device supports both low USB 1.1 and hi-speed USB 2.0 peripherals. Offering multi platform support such as XP, Vista, UNIX, Linux and Mac OSX, this extender hub is a four-port hub set enabling immediate high-speed wireless connectivity.
